Wandering Earl Tours

The time has come to announce the remaining tours that I will be offering this year as part of my Wandering Earl Tours project. When I first started with these tours, I had no idea that it would grow into what it has already grown into. I assumed that I might run a couple of tours and that would probably be it.

However, after receiving so many emails and requests for more tours, I simply could not, and did not, want to ignore the fact that even more of you are interested in exploring a part of the world with me. And to me, it is my absolute pleasure and honor to play such a role in the achievement of your travel goals.

With Wandering Earl Tours, the concept is ‘independent travel with the support of a small group’ as these are not your typical tours. We don’t travel in large private buses, we eat in actual local restaurants and I try my best to give you as much time in each destination as possible so that you can enjoy more than a fleeting glimpse of what a particular place has to offer. Basically, we travel as I would travel if I were on my own.

So, here are the next tours I would like to announce for 2013…

Wander Across Romania (and Moldova!)

Dates: June 16th to 30th, 2013

Sighisoara, Romania

Highlights: This trip is going to expose you to a region of the world that is seldom explored, despite being home to a wonderfully diverse range of destinations that constantly awes those travelers who do indeed make the trip. Just imagine an experience that includes the highly underrated capital city of Bucharest as well as a visit to the heart of mountainous Transylvania, where you’ll stay in one of the most atmospheric towns in Romania and one of the best-preserved medieval towns in all of Europe. Then, we shall venture deeper into the countryside, visiting three regions that offer not only incredible natural beauty, but a collection of imposing ancient citadels, the super-impressive painted monasteries of Bucovina (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and villages that offer a chance to take a few steps back in time. And after our exploration of Romania, we’ll cross the border into neighboring Moldova for a glimpse of a country that is one of the least visited on the planet. And believe me, its combination of unique sights, super-friendly people and of course, its good wine, will leave you thrilled at having had a chance to visit this tiny nation. It will also act as the perfect finale of a tour through such a rewarding region that has still yet to be discovered by mass tourism! Are you ready?

Some of the main places we’ll visit include: Bucharest, Sinaia, Brasov, Sighisoara, Neamt County, Bucovina, Moldova & Transnistria

Cost: $1580

What’s Included:
Accommodation – 14 nights at quality budget guesthouses, hotels & hostels
Meals – 10 meals throughout the trip (mix of lunches & dinners)
Transportation – all transportation within Romania & Moldova during the tour
Activities – all included activities and associated entrance & guide fees

Wander Across India

Dates: There will be two tours to India this year…
Departure #1 – September 18th to October 5th, 2013
Departure #2 – October 9th to October 27th, 2013

Golden Temple, Amritsar, India

Highlights: With 28 states in India, it’s impossible to see it all, but this 19-day itinerary will cover a good portion, allowing you to experience some of the country’s most important destinations, including historical and religious sights, chaotic and intense cities, peaceful and remote villages and a constant stream of experiences that will challenge, delight, shock, inspire and change you in more ways that you can ever imagine. From the Golden Temple in Amritsar to the Tibetan communities of the Himalayas, to the beautiful Taj Mahal and the 16th century palaces and forts of Madhya Pradesh State, as well as the holy city of Varanasi, the holiest place for Hindus in the entire country, you’ll certainly have an opportunity to understand what makes India one of the most life-changing destinations in the world. And that’s just a taste of what we’ll explore on this trip!

Some of the main places we’ll visit include: Delhi, Amritsar, McLeod Ganj, Rishikesh, Agra (Taj Mahal!), Orchha and Varanasi

Cost: $1300

What’s Included:
Accommodation – 19 nights at good quality budget guesthouses & hotels
Meals – 14 meals throughout the trip (mix of lunches & dinners)
Transportation – all transportation within India during the tour
Activities – all included activities and associated entrance & guide fees

There you have it, the Wandering Earl Tours offerings for the rest of 2013.

More Info & How to Book

If you are interested in any of the above tours, just send me an email through my contact form and I’ll forward you the complete itinerary and all the details you need to confirm your spot. Remember, each tour typically has a maximum of only 10 people, so space is limited and these tours do tend to fill up fast!

And of course, if you have any questions at all, just let me know.

As always, I’m looking forward to meeting, traveling and getting to know some of you this year on one of the above excursions!

I will follow closely to see what I have missed and who knows pick your brains in the future.

    Hola desde Cuba,

I’m in. Please sign me up for your second “Wander Across India” tour, (Oct 9 – 27).

I was disappointed I couldn’t join you last year. From what I read, everyone had an awesome adventure. I am excited to be able to join you this year and looking forward to exploring India with you.

I’ll probably arrive a few days early and will likely leave a couple of weeks later so I can explore more of India. So I’d love your advice on where to go and what to see after the tour. Ladakh & Kashmir are high on my list of places to explore and photograph.

    • Wandering Earl March 8, 2013 at 11:28 am - Reply

Hola Robert – You are confirmed on the India tour and I’m looking forward to meeting your finally! And that is a great idea to arrive early and stay a couple of weeks afterward. I’ll be in touch and we can discuss those details more as well. Kashmir is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen, so well worth a visit. It’s just not too easy to get to which is why I can’t include it on the tour but you’ll have the time after to head up there!

      • Robert Vinet March 8, 2013 at 12:05 pm - Reply

Awesome! Can’t wait to receive your recommendations.

And if other participants want to join up for more ‘apres tour’ travel, that would be awesome as well.

Would you like to see me too? We can have a cup of tea together. Besides one of my friends operates a guest house at McLeod Ganj. He is a westerner. In case you are looking for an accomodation there….you may contact him. He is a journalist for Tibetan newspaper and has been living there for years.

someday I’ll join your tour, but not this time because i have other things coming. however, i’ll be in india this end of march, can’t wait to visit india for the first time.

looking forward for your next year’s tour!

I can vouch for Romania. I was there a couple years ago and it was one of the best trips I’ve ever taken. Once you get away from Dracula’s castle, you will not see any other tourists. Brasov, Sighisoara, Bucovina…. you’re bringing back some great memories. Have fun!

  17. Jennifer February 28, 2013 at 3:53 pm - Reply

Are your tours for adults only or do you welcome families?

    • Wandering Earl March 1, 2013 at 1:17 am - Reply

Hey Jennifer – I definitely welcome families as well…all tours are family-friendly!

  18. Samantha February 28, 2013 at 3:09 pm - Reply

Are places still open for the latter of the India tours?

    • Wandering Earl March 1, 2013 at 1:18 am - Reply

Hey Samantha – At the moment I have 3 spots left on the second India tour. If you’re interested, do let me know!

  19. Paul February 27, 2013 at 11:21 am - Reply

Way cool! I had a chance to check out Romania for a week in 2008, and what a great place! Best of luck with these tours next year

    • Wandering Earl February 27, 2013 at 12:57 pm - Reply

Thanks Paul…Romania sure is a great place, one that doesn’t get the attention it deserves!

    Awesome tours info!

  21. Shailesh Jangra February 27, 2013 at 8:52 am - Reply

Great choice about India but try to include some more places like Chandigarh’s Rock garden, Camel riding in Rajasthan, Rohtang etc. You can really enjoy at these places.

    • Wandering Earl February 27, 2013 at 12:54 pm - Reply

Hey Shailesh – There are hundreds of more places I would love to add to the tour but it’s just not possible to do it all! So much to see in India that I would have to make a tour for 6 months to cover everything 🙂

  22. Meha February 27, 2013 at 8:00 am - Reply

    You should add goa too

    • Wandering Earl February 27, 2013 at 12:39 pm - Reply

Hey Meha – I would love to add Goa but there are just too many places in India to add to one tour!!

  23. Lien February 26, 2013 at 8:37 pm - Reply

    • Wandering Earl February 27, 2013 at 12:43 pm - Reply

Hey Julie – Let me know if you want to join…what a year it would be for you to do both!

  25. AJ Aerni February 26, 2013 at 5:30 am - Reply

I love the trips you’re putting together and hope to be able to join you on one of them. Or that our paths cross while on the open road. I’ll be all over Europe during March, Spain for the Camino de Santiago in April. Right now I’m spending time in india – just came back from Allahabad for the Kumbha Mela. Next stop Egypt for the pyramids. Are you just doing the 3 tours shown above for 2013?

    • Wandering Earl February 27, 2013 at 12:49 pm - Reply

Hey AJ – I’m also doing a tour to Mexico that starts in 10 days and 5-day tour to Istanbul in May that I announced about a month ago. So it looks like those 5 tours for this year…but if the demand is there, I’ll certainly open up more!

  26. Sacha February 25, 2013 at 5:25 pm - Reply

Wow earl I think that is awesome!! I can’t do a tour this year as I’m going to the UK to travel a bit. But I hope you are still doing tours in 2014 and 2015 because I will definitely come along!

    • Wandering Earl February 27, 2013 at 12:37 pm - Reply

Hey Sacha – Chances are very high that I’ll still be doing tours next year!

  27. Andy February 25, 2013 at 4:03 pm - Reply

Dude you are ON FIRE with these tours! I’m honored to have been a part of the very first one (so many great memories and photos yet to be edited). If you ever put one together for Burma, I am totally on board. Take care & happy travels..

    • Wandering Earl February 27, 2013 at 12:36 pm - Reply

Namaste Mr. Schrock! Burma would certainly make for an interesting tour. It’s now on my list of possibilities and I’ll explore the idea a little further. And I can’t wait to see more of your photos from India…it’s amazing how many times I get messages from friends commenting on your photos that they see on FB. You’re quite a photographer my friend!

@Passport Dave – I definitely won’t be burnt out…I absolutely love doing these tours! As for tropical locations, I’m working on it 🙂

This is so fricking awesome! I’ve been a long time reader now and always thought you should be touring people. Glad it’s working out! I may be living in Hungary (using as a stepping stone to visit Eastern Europe) when the Romanian tour is on and although I don’t have the cash for it right now you never know I may be in the neigbourhood!

    • Wandering Earl February 27, 2013 at 12:30 pm - Reply

Hey Forest – Either way, if you’re going to be that close to Romania, we must plan a time to meet up!

  31. Chelsea February 25, 2013 at 2:28 pm - Reply

Wow, Earl! Your India tour is extremely appealing to me. I unfortunately can’t book anything at this time, this far in advance, but am going to keep this in mind if there happens to still be one open spot later on once I figure out where in the world I’ll be during the time of your tour(s). Unbeatable price. Thank you for the information 🙂

    • Wandering Earl February 27, 2013 at 12:28 pm - Reply

Hey Chelsea – It would be great to have you join so let me know whenever you can!
