Well, despite my corporate job and having created some sort of home in Vienna over the last 3 years, I still carry what’s casually called the “travel bug”. It’s like an addiction you think you’ve overcome – until you finally decide to take more than a week off again and travel to another continent. Then all of a sudden the withdrawal symptoms are back and harder than ever (ironically, before you’ve even made it to the airport and started the actual travelling). And you begin to calculate to see how many pad thai the fried noodles I just had (yes, those from the Thai street stall-like vendor) would have bought you in Bangkok (roughly, a week’s supply of lunch). Apparently, I am not the only person in the world doing such calculations by the way. There is at least one more: thank you, Wandering Earl! I personally feel that converting purchases in this manner is one of the keys to having been able to travel for so long. And yes, you should check out the pad thai lady when you get to Bangkok.
