And the food they fed me was excellent and they kept on feeding me throughout my stay!

Hey Sabina – After watching cockroaches for that long, I was prepared to do anything that involved being outside and far away from that guesthouse room! And yes, I agree about the abundance of negative stories and that is why I try to focus on the smaller aspects of life, the simple moments that are so full of positivity and kindness but are often overlooked for their lack of attention-grabbing headlines. Every day is filled with such moments of human interaction and to me that is the important core of life. We are all the same as you said and if we start treating each other as such, the negativity out there would quickly be replaced with endless uplifting stories!

Hey Nate – You’re a fan of the hat, huh? It's good that after 48 straight hours of watching the cockroaches come, you could go outside and help clean up the mess, rather than fleeing to somewhere more comfortable for you and leaving everyone else behind. I'm glad they rewarded you with food!

What a great story about becoming a local! A friend of mine who just left NZ remarked how gutted he was not being there for the earthquake, I mean surviving an earthquake = cool story.
Talking about an earthquake that you missed by a week because you flew out of the country = not so cool.

I’d love to be involved in that for the stories, I’ve always thought this too. I love stories like this. Every day we're bombarded with negative stories (e.g. the whole mosque 'saga' in NYC, democrats vs republicans, etc.), which mask the true nature of reality. When it comes down to it, we're all the same. I'll spare you (and everyone) with an insane tangent on our belief systems and the stories we create around ourselves that really amount to us protecting our over-inflated ego.....
But, at any rate, this just shows how compassion and kindness truly are what matters in this world. Helping others selflessly. Sharing our talents. Teaching others. Thanks for an uplifting story!

Earl – Love the hat!

I love stories like this. With that said, I'm still going to try and avoid snow storms for as long as I possibly can!

Hey Adam – You’re exactly right, it’s up to us to determine how a particular situation is going to affect us, and being stuck in the snow or in a monsoon storm is no different. Just gathering around the chai stall in the morning or evening as a traveler has led to endless memories! Growing up in Central Oregon I know a thing or two about bad weather. I can't count the times I've been stuck out in the middle of now where because I found some deep snow in my truck or it snowed 12" overnight. I never cared though because I always saw it as adventure.
As long as you look at things in a positive light, most times they will turn out that way. Why get mad over things you can't control?

Great post and the images are nothing but classic!

Growing up in Central Oregon I know a thing or two about bad weather.
